S ep 1 99 2 Interface roughening with a time - varying external driving force
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a theoretical and numerical investigation of the effect of a timevarying external driving force on interface growth. First, we derive a relation between the roughening exponents which comes from a generalized Galilean invariance, showing how the critical dimension of the model is tunable with the external field. We further conjecture results for the exponents in two dimensions, and find consistency with data obtained through simulations of two models we expect to be in the same universality class. Finally, we discuss how our results can be investigated experimentally.

Roughening and pinning of interface cracks in shear delamination of thin films
We investigate the roughening of shear cracks running along the interface between a thin film and a rigid substrate. We demonstrate that short-range correlated fluctuations of the interface strength lead to self-affine roughening of the crack front as the driving force (the applied shear stress/stress intensity factor) increases towards a critical value. We investigate the disorder-induced pert...
متن کاملLateral composition modulation in AlAsÕInAs and GaAsÕInAs short period superlattices structures: The role of surface segregation
The effect of In surface segregation on the microstructure of short period superlattices ~SPSs! in two different material systems with nominally equivalent lattice misfit, AlAs/InAs and GaAs/InAs, has been investigated and compared. It was found that the quality of the SPSs and the appearance of lateral composition modulation are remarkably different in these two systems. For AlAs/InAs SPSs gro...

In this paper, a generalization of the Kuramoto model is introduced by explicit consideration of deterministically time-varying periodic external force. In this model, the oscillator's natural frequencies and amplitude of collective oscillations are influenced by external forces with constant or random strengths. Then, the synchronization behavior of forced Kuramoto model is studied in some com...
متن کاملScaling Behavior of Driven Interfaces Above the Depinning Transition
We study the depinning transition for models representative of each of the two universality classes of interface roughening with quenched disorder. For one of the universality classes, the roughness exponent changes value at the transition, while the dynamical exponent remains unchanged. We also find that the prefactor of the width scales with the driving force. We propose several scaling relat...
متن کاملInterface depinning in the absence of an external driving force.
We study the pinning-depinning phase transition of interfaces in the quenched Kardar-Parisi-Zhang model as the external driving force F goes towards zero. For a fixed value of the driving force, we induce depinning by increasing the nonlinear term coefficient lambda, which is related to lateral growth, up to a critical threshold. We focus on the case in which there is no external force applied ...
